PAWTUCKET – Matthew Carvalho, a lifelong city resident who grew up in the Fairlawn neighborhood and went to school in Woodlawn from kindergarten through grade 8, says he’s running for City Council District 6 against Marlena Martins Stachowiak.
“I’m very proud of this city, and that’s why I’m excited to announce that I’m running for the Democratic nomination for Pawtucket City Council, District 6,” he said.
“Since 2020, I’ve served on the Pawtucket Business Development Corporation,” he added. “I truly enjoy giving back to the community I grew up in, and I’m ready to take that commitment to the next level by serving on the City Council.
Pawtucket needs a councilor who really knows Pawtucket’s neighborhoods, listens to residents’ concerns, and focuses on the issues that matter most to the people who live here, Carvalho added.
“I believe I can be that person for you,” he said. “If elected, I will be accessible and easy to reach. I’ll hold regular town halls, return phone calls, and always put your concerns first.
He said his top priorities will be:
• Creating more affordable housing while protecting neighborhoods;
• And improving schools, so every child in Pawtucket gets a great education;
“I have worked in education for the past four years, and that experience has shown me how important our schools are for our kids and for the future of our city,” he said. “I’m full of ideas and ready to work hard for District 6 and all of Pawtucket. But real change only happens when we work together. I’m asking for your support so we can make our city even better, together. Thank you for taking the time to read this. I look forward to meeting you and earning your vote.”
