Public service begins with a simple promise: Every person deserves to be treated with dignity, protected by the law and heard by their government.
As chairperson of the Lincoln Democratic Town Committee, I spend a great deal of time listening to neighbors and thinking about what Democratic leadership should mean. People want safe communities, affordable healthcare and relief from rising costs. They also want to know their government sees them, respects them and will defend them when their rights are threatened.
For me, the choice for Attorney General comes down to one question: Who can Rhode Islanders trust to stand up for them when doing so is difficult, unpopular or requires confronting powerful interests?
That candidate is Keith Hoffmann.
Keith has spent his career using the law to protect people. Inside the Rhode Island Attorney General’s office, he prosecuted serious crimes, led the Civil Rights Unit and helped build the Public Protection Bureau. He worked to ensure that Rhode Islanders received equal protection under the law and that those with power could still be held accountable.
What stands out to me is not simply the titles Keith has held. It is the consistent purpose behind his work. He has fought for people whose rights were violated, families harmed by lead poisoning, patients struggling to access healthcare and consumers mistreated by powerful corporations. He understands that discrimination, economic exploitation and unequal treatment are not abstract legal issues. They affect real people, real families and real communities.
At a time when Donald Trump is using the power of the federal government to threaten funding, attack fundamental rights and target vulnerable people, Rhode Island needs an Attorney General with the courage and experience to fight back. Keith has already helped lead a successful legal effort against the Trump administration when billions of dollars in federal funding were at risk.
He has also defended Rhode Island’s gun-safety laws, strengthened protections against childhood lead poisoning and helped secure more than $40 million for our primary-care system. These may sound like different issues, but they share a common principle: Government should protect people, especially when they are up against something more powerful than themselves.
Attorney Gen. Peter Neronha has seen Keith’s leadership firsthand and endorsed him as the candidate who will be ready on day one. That support matters because the next Attorney General cannot spend months learning how the office works. Rhode Islanders need someone prepared to act immediately.
The Lincoln Democratic Town Committee endorsed Keith because his experience is matched by his values. He believes justice must apply equally, rights must be defended vigorously, and no person should be ignored simply because they lack wealth, influence or political power.
Keith Hoffmann will be an Attorney General for every Rhode Islander. He will lead with compassion, act with integrity and never hesitate to stand up for people whose voices are too often overlooked.
