Want service hours?
Well, if I had to guess, many students don’t want to spend their time getting service hours. Rather, you need to. Fortunately, I have a simple, easy, and beneficial solution for both parties. One I believe should be much more popular than it currently is.
I am Sydney Martins, a senior at Cumberland High School and a member of Brown University’s semesterly Political Review journalism program. As someone aspiring to go into journalism and communication, what better way to gain experience than to inform my fellow students about things they may not yet know about?
Volunteering is about giving, without the expectation of getting something in return. One way to earn the fruits of your labor is easy: go to Franklin Farm! On Sept. 26, join Franklin Farm for their annual Harvest Festival and Tractor Show, sporting their official Franklin Farm Harvest Festival volunteer shirt. As a volunteer, your shift could be from 9:30-2 or 1-5:30, and during this time, you could take part in one or more of the following stations:
• Welcoming guests
• Marketplace tent
• Taking tickets for the hayrides
• Kid games
• Chicken Flinging
• Helping with parking
• Among many more fun places!
Using the QR code at the bottom of this document, you can sign up for one time slot or select both time slots for all-day volunteering and nearly double the service hours. Personally, the last time volunteering at Franklin Farms, I left with fresh vegetables and free Del’s Lemonade. Just saying.
As a bonus to all this, anyone is welcome (14+). This opportunity is not just for Cumberland High School students. If you have a friend or family member of 14 years or older, volunteer together!
