Pawtucket police make arrests in drive-by shooting

PAWTUCKET – Police say they’ve arrested two suspects in a Sept. 18 drive-by shooting on Cottage Street.

At around 1:05 p.m. that day Pawtucket officers were dispatched to 142 Cottage St. for the report of multiple shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located two shell casing in the roadway. No injuries were reported.

Detectives from the Pawtucket Police Major Crimes Division responded immediately and began an investigation. Investigators gathered video surveillance from the area and utilized Flock LPR (license plate reader) technology to identify a vehicle of interest, states a release.

Shortly after, the vehicle was located and took two individuals into custody for questioning: Deshon Depaiva, 20, and a juvenile male.

As the investigation progressed, detectives conducted interviews and gathered additional evidence. It was subsequently determined that Depaiva and the juvenile would be charged in connection with the incident, including drive-by shooting and conspiracy.

Depaiva is being arraigned by a bail commissioner Saturday morning and the juvenile male was sent to the Rhode Island Training School.

“The Pawtucket Police Department credits the quick apprehension of both suspects to the coordinated efforts of the Major Crime Detectives, assistance from eyewitnesses, surveillance footage, and Flock LPR technology,” states the release.
