PAWTUCKET – Police say they’ve arrested two men after a raid on Wednesday morning in connection to a shooting two weeks ago on Mineral Spring Avenue.

On the morning of Oct. 7, the Pawtucket Police Department, with assistance from members of the Special Response Team (SRT), Narcotics Unit (SS), and Major Crime Unit (MCU), served search warrants at two locations within the city as part of an ongoing investigation into a shooting that occurred on Sept. 24 on Mineral Spring Avenue.

The shooting occurred at around 3:37 p.m. and a male victim was shot in the chest. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment, where he was later reported to be in stable condition. He has since been released from the hospital.

Since the Sept. 24, shooting, members of the Major Crime Unit have worked tirelessly to identify those responsible, said police. Through the course of the investigation, detectives identified Kavon Almeida, 21, of Pawtucket, and Jaevon Gomes, 21, of Pawtucket, as being responsible for the shooting.

Detectives continued to gather evidence and develop investigative leads, which ultimately led to the issuance of arrest and search warrants for Almeida and Gomes.

Both Almeida and Gomes were taken into custody Wednesday morning during the execution of the search warrants.

Almeida and Gomes are each charged with:

• Assault with intent to commit a specified felony (attempted murder)

• Discharging a firearm while committing a crime of violence

• Firing a firearm in a compact area

• Two counts of felony conspiracy

• Conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor

• And disorderly conduct

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional arrests may follow.
