WOONSOCKET – Local leaders officially opened the new Cass Park Community Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, calling it a big day for the city as a whole.
“This incredible space will soon be buzzing with programs focused on education, workforce development, health and wellness, recreation, and so much more,” stated an announcement.
Officials thanked their community partners who will bring the building to life.
“We also celebrated this historic milestone with a special time capsule ceremony, preserving a little piece of today’s excitement for future generations,” stated representatives from Mayor Chris Beauchamp’s office.

Programs will begin rolling out over the next few weeks, with schedules and updates posted on the city’s website, the Woonsocket Connect app (woon.fyi), and the monthly newsletter.
“The doors are open, and the best is yet to come,” said officials.
Human Services Director Margaux Morisseau said she was handed a pretty big challenge nearly a year ago: overseeing development of a new $7 million community center that hadn’t broken ground yet.

“Today we cut the ribbon,” she said in a post. “And thanks to an incredible team of people who worked tirelessly to make it happen, we did it on time and on budget.”
She said she is incredibly proud to have played a part in bringing the vision to life.
“But what excites me most is what comes next. Now we get to work with our amazing community partners to fill this beautiful building with programs, opportunities, and people,” she said. “I can’t wait to watch this place come alive and see the impact it will have on our community for generations to come. What a day. Proud of Woonsocket!”
The 14,000-square-foot facility is part of the newly completed Cass Park athletic complex, and the center was funded through American Rescue Plan Act grants.

Last July, Gov. Dan McKee announced the planned opening of 21 new or redone community learning centers across the state, done through $82 million in grants.
The new local facility will offer education, job development, and health monitoring programs.
