SMITHFIELD – The Smithfield Economic Development Commission has announced that Smithfield Apple Trails returns Oct. 10.
“Mark your calendars!” said the group.
The popular town-wide treasure hunt, started in 2021 as a pandemic activity and maintained since as it’s grown in popularity, is free for anyone to participate in.
Hand-blown glass apples and pumpkins will be hidden along the town’s designated apple trails. Find one and you keep it, and redeem it at Appleland Orchards, 135 Smith Ave. in Greenville, for a free gift.

Organizers say to stay on designated trails. Everything is hidden in plain sight and within reach.
“Be kind to the woods, and to everyone else out hunting,” they said.
They’re also encouraging people to come back regularly, as the glass items will be restocked weekly. That means a trail already walked is worth walking again.

The rule is one per family per season, not one per week, not one per family member. Spot another one? Leave it for the next family to find.
The trails to look along are Powder Mill Ledges, 12 Sanderson Road, Stillwater Scenic Trail, 301 Farnum Pike, and Latham Brook Preserve, 315 Long Road.

At Appleland Orchards, no registration and no forms are required. Once you redeem your gift, share a picture with the EDC on Facebook Messenger.
Sponsors are the EDC, Appleland Orchards, Gather, the Smithfield Conservation Commission, Smithfield Land Trust, and Audubon Society of Rhode Island.
