PAWTUCKET – Meghan Kallman hit the 71 percent mark in her race to keep her Senate District 15 seat against Vanessa Lopez, winning 2,586 votes to Lopez’s 1,062 votes, or 29.11 percent.
Kallman had roundly criticized Lopez for her candidacy and affiliations.
“Rhode Islanders made a number of decisive selections last evening, and I am honored to be among them,” posted Kallman. “Across the city and state, we saw voters embracing equity, creativity, vision, and kindness in their choice of elected leaders. From housing to cost of living issues, to immigration, Rhode Islanders chose representatives who will be proactive and dynamic, especially right now.”
She added, “I am humbled that voters trusted me with this job again, and, as always, I am committed to making policy and decisions that are based in my values, well communicated, and transparent. I look forward to continuing to work alongside and for my constituents in support of a Pawtucket and a Rhode Island that is just and joyous.”
Incumbent District 8 Sen. Lori Urso also achieved a wide margin in Wednesday’s primary, winning 1,436 votes, or 58.59 percent, to 1,015 votes, or 41.41 percent for fellow Democrat Gena Felix.
Urso had run on her record of getting good bills passed, saying Felix isn’t paying attention if she doesn’t think the incumbent has gotten things done.
Incumbent House District 61 Rep. Leonela Felix also won handily, earning 868 votes, or 53.51 percent, to 754 votes, or 46.49 percent for Mark Theroux.
Felix ran as an “anti-machine” candidate, and a platform of continuing to fight for the working families.
Other incumbents were unopposed in Wednesday’s primary.
