NORTH SMITHFIELD – Protecting North Smithfield’s quality of life is one of the top priorities that Rebecca DeCristofaro, Ann Lilley and Beth Newberry have established to focus on should they be elected, said Newberry in a news release this week.

“I have served on the Groundwater Protection Committee as both vice chair and chair for the last two years, and feel that taking our environment into consideration when making decisions for the town is crucial,” she said.

“While serving on the committee, I’ve worked to advocate for taking long term effects to our environment into consideration (at Planning Board, Town Council and School Committee meetings) when making decisions,” added Newberry.

“Additionally, the committee has educated the community through events such as meeting with Chief Chartier to discuss PFAS in the fire station well and holding an open house with representatives from the EPA, RIDOH, RIDEM, the Town Water and Sewer Department, and other local organizations.”

Concluded Newberry, “I commit to bringing this same consideration into making Council decisions.”
