SMITHFIELD – Due to what they describe as overwhelming demand for in-person tours of a newly acquired and expansive town-owned property, town officials are now offering a virtual tour, available below.
Officials said the tours reached capacity quickly, prompting them to pivot to YouTube for easy exploration.
“As the Town continues to evaluate future uses of the property, we remain committed to transparency and community engagement and appreciate the strong interest shown by the community,” said officials in a statement last month.

In December, the Town Council authorized a $5.3 million purchase of the property following a legal battle over whether it would come under public ownership. After the town put in an offer a year ago, the owner backed out of the deal, going with a higher offer of $6.3 million. That led to the legal action and the town eventually coming out victorious.
