ATTLEBORO – The Attleboro Fire Department responded to a car dealership at 957 Washington St. early Saturday morning for a fire that appeared to be suspicious.

At about 12:03 a.m., on Saturday, May 16, crews were dispatched for a reported dumpster fire. Firefighters discovered two vehicles fully ablaze. Using firefighting foam, crews quickly contained the fire and prevent it from spreading to additional vehicles nearby. It was extinguished in about 10 minutes. The fire had spread to a second vehicle by the time crews arrived.

“There was potential for multiple additional vehicles to catch fire,” District Chief Mike Maitland said. “The quick actions of responding crews prevented further loss.”The Attleboro Fire Investigation Unit was called to the scene. Lead investigator, Capt. Nick Sheehan, said the investigation remains in its early stages. The dealership’s staff is cooperating fully with investigators.
