ATTLEBORO – Firefighters extinguished a fire in a pizza restaurant on Saturday evening.
Firefighters responded to Park Street Pizza at 104 Park St. at about 5:03 p.m. on May 23 for reports of a fire inside the restaurant.
First-arriving companies reported heavy dark smoke upon arrival. Fire crews quickly made an interior attack using portable fire extinguishers and brought the fire under control in about five minutes.
The restaurant is attached to a multi-family residential structure. Smoke from the fire entered portions of the attached building, but crews were able to prevent any fire extension or damage to the residential occupancy, according to a release.
“Fires in restaurants can be difficult due to the variety of potential ignition sources and cooking equipment involved,” said District Chief Michael Maitland. “Crews extinguished this fire extremely quickly, preventing further damage to the restaurant and surrounding structure.”
Gas and electrical service to the restaurant were terminated following the incident. The local Health Department was notified.
Members of the Attleboro Fire Investigation Unit responded to determine the exact cause of the fire. Preliminary observations indicate the damage was isolated to the area surrounding the fryer.
No injuries were reported.
Fire crews remained on scene until approximately 6:02 p.m.
During the incident, station coverage was provided by the Pawtucket Fire Department, Mansfield Fire Department, North Attleborough Fire Department, and Cumberland Emergency Medical Services.
