NORTH PROVIDENCE – Residents of Woodward Road near the Louisquisset Golf Club say they live with constant concerns about injury or property damage.
Representatives from Louisquisset, speaking at the June 2 North Providence Town Council meeting, responded to an earlier letter about the situation and said they hadn’t had any complaints.
They said the issues being brought up seem to center on the area of holes two and three, where there is some chainlink fence and netting.
Club representatives indicated they’ll work with any residents and make their contact information available to them. That way they can narrow down where the exact issue is stemming from, whether it’s the tee shot from the second hole or approach shot from the third hole. They said they can draft an action plan and come back to the council with it in a month.
Residents disputed that they haven’t filed complaints. Robert and Sheri Melo, of 715 Woodward Road, said they called last year about property damage and were told by a manager at Louisquisset to go through their insurance.
Felton Messina, of 721 Woodward Road, agreed that this remains a troublesome situation.
“The issue with the golf balls is just getting out of hand,” he said.
Messina then held up a plastic bag full of golf balls he said had come into his property in the previous month. He said he was recently mowing his grass when a golf ball nearly hit him in the head.
“It’s just a lot at this point,” he said.
Messina said they contacted the golf club twice last year, and were also told to go through insurance for their property damage. He said he worries about safety for his niece and nephew, who come over often and like to play outside.
Council President Dino Autiello thanked Woodward Road residents for coming.
“That’s a lot of golf balls. That shouldn’t be happening,” he said after seeing the bag.
Representatives from the club promised to develop a course of action and follow up. Autiello told residents that if that doesn’t help the issue, they should let the council know.
