PAWTUCKET – At-large City Councilor Yesenia Rubio has announced her campaign for re-election, inviting residents, supporters, friends, and community members to join her Campaign Kickoff Fundraiser on Monday, June 29, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Notes Coffee Co., 508 Armistice Blvd.
Since first taking office, Rubio said she has worked to help guide Pawtucket through periods of economic uncertainty while remaining focused on long-term progress, fiscal responsibility, and improving quality of life for residents.
“Over the past several years, we’ve faced real challenges as a city. We’ve had to make difficult decisions and navigate economic pressures that impacted families, businesses, and local government alike,” said Rubio in a release. “Through it all, I’ve worked alongside my colleagues, residents, and community partners to keep taxpayers, our youth, small businesses, seniors, and working families at the center of those decisions.”
During her time on the council, Pawtucket has welcomed transformational investments, including a new commuter rail station, the opening of Tidewater Stadium, continued housing and mixed-use development, investments in public infrastructure, and the construction of a new high school while renovating neighborhood elementary schools, noted Rubio.
She said she has been a strong advocate for small businesses, educational investment, economic development, public safety, senior services, and policies that help ensure the city’s growth benefits all residents.
“We’ve made tremendous progress, but the work is far from over,” she said. “I remain committed to creating a city that is safe, welcoming, inclusive, and full of opportunity. A city where families can thrive, small businesses can succeed, our seniors feel supported, and every resident feels seen and valued.”
Rubio says her decision to seek another term is deeply personal.
“As a parent, this work takes on even greater meaning. My son Julian recently turned 4 years old, and my daughter Valentina will soon celebrate her first birthday. Every decision I make, every vote I take, and every challenge I tackle is rooted in helping build a better future for them and for the families and children who will inherit this city after us.”
Rubio said she is dedicating her campaign to the memory of her aunt, who died earlier this year.
“My aunt was one of the most selfless people I’ve ever known. She led with grace, compassion, humility, and an unwavering love for family, friends, and community,” she said. “She was like another mother to me and taught me what it means to show up for people without expecting anything in return. Her life was a testament to service, generosity, and love. This campaign is dedicated to her memory and to carrying forward the values she lived every day: community, kindness, and helping others.”
Looking ahead, Rubio said her campaign will focus on continuing to strengthen public safety, supporting inclusive economic development, investing in education, improving quality of life, supporting small business development, celebrating diversity and inclusion, and ensuring Pawtucket continues evolving into a city that works for everyone.
“I believe deeply in Pawtucket and in the people who call it home,” she said. “Together, we’ve accomplished so much. I’m excited to continue the work, build on our progress, and help shape an even brighter future for the next generation.”
