WOONSOCKET – Alana Gordon is running for Woonsocket City Council, bringing “a community-driven and solutions-focused approach to local leadership,” states a release.

“A key focus of my platform is affordability. With rising housing costs and a growing number of cost-burdened residents, I am calling for policies that more closely align the cost of living with local incomes,” she said. “I support efforts to expand attainable housing options, stabilize rents, and create pathways to homeownership so that more residents can build long-term stability within our city.”

Gordon says she is prioritizing support for small businesses, as they are a critical part of Woonsocket’s economic foundation.

“I’ll work to reduce unnecessary barriers, improve communication between business owners and city leadership, and foster an environment where local businesses can grow and thrive,” she said.

Tax reform is the keystone of her campaign, Gordon added.

“I have developed a proposal designed to stabilize the city’s tax structure while providing relief to residents,” she said. “My plan emphasizes fairness, sustainability, and long-term economic strength, with a focus on ensuring that the tax burden is more equitably distributed.”

She said she is passionate about meaningful social reform.

“I understand the importance of investing in community well-being, including safer schools, increased opportunities for youth, and stronger engagement between residents and local government,” Gordon said. “I understand that addressing root causes of these issues rather than just symptoms is essential to creating lasting change.”

She said she has been listening to residents and translating those conversations into actionable solutions, spending the past several months meeting with community members, educators, and local stakeholders to better understand the challenges Woonsocket faces and to build a platform grounded in real experiences.

“I’m running because I believe Woonsocket is ready for a more focused, long-term and solutions-oriented approach,” she said. “We have the ability to address these challenges, but it requires urgency, accountability, and a willingness to work together.”

Added Gordon, “I look forward to speaking with all of you. Until we have the opportunity to meet, I urge you to stay engaged, share your perspectives with your community leaders, and take an active role in shaping the future of Woonsocket.”
