LINCOLN – Town officials say they have been made aware of a permitting fee scam targeting residents, contractors, and developers.
Scammers are using publicly available information about proposed projects and permit applications to pose as town officials. They may use project-specific information and fake or misleading email addresses to make fraudulent requests for permitting fees appear legitimate, they said.
Before making any payment, verify the request directly with the appropriate town department, they stated. Do not send money, provide financial information, or click unfamiliar payment links if you are unsure of the sender.
“When in doubt, contact the town directly before you pay,” said officials. “Please share this warning with anyone currently working on a project or permit application in Lincoln.”
