WOONSOCKET – City Councilor Valerie Gonzalez says she is working to ease everyday expenses for working middle-class families and seniors by building community partnerships and connecting residents with practical resources.
As she seeks re-election to the Woonsocket City Council, Gonzalez says helping residents manage the cost of living remains a priority.
“Working families and seniors deserve opportunities to stretch their budgets and meet their everyday needs,” she stated in a release. “I intend to continue connecting residents with resources that can make a meaningful difference.”
One example is a partnership she helped create between Aging Well, the Elisha Project, and Brigido’s Supermarket. The collaboration provides seniors with free groceries and toiletries, helping them meet essential needs while leaving more room in their budgets for other necessities.
Gonzalez plans to build on that effort through the relationships she has established with state and local officials, business owners, and community leaders. Those connections have helped her bring partners together to address community needs, and she sees them as essential to expanding support for working households and seniors facing financial pressure.
She describes herself as a “connector of puzzle pieces,” recognizing needs and bringing together the people, resources, and ideas to address them.
“I may not have every answer, but I will ask questions, seek out the right people, and work toward a solution,” she said. “When someone brings me a concern, I take it seriously.”
For Gonzalez, that commitment means listening to residents, identifying opportunities for collaboration, and following through.
“I care deeply about Woonsocket, and I see the financial struggles of hardworking families and retired seniors. I envision a city where dedication to work leads to greater stability and growing older brings peace of mind, and I’m committed to doing my part to keep making a difference,” she said.
