$5 million gift celebrates a century of service and supports the organization’s future impact
JOHNSTON – Commercial property insurer FM has announced a $5 million gift from the FM Foundation to United Way of Rhode Island, the largest single corporate donation in the nonprofit organization’s history.
The landmark gift coincides with United Way of Rhode Island’s centennial, honoring 100 years of bringing people and resources together to address the state’s most pressing needs while helping position the organization for its next century of service.
FM’s partnership with United Way of Rhode Island spans more than 85 years. This latest gift builds on that enduring commitment and will help advance efforts to protect communities, expand opportunity and improve lives throughout Rhode Island for years to come, states a release.

For 100 years, United Way of Rhode Island has done just that,” said Malcolm Roberts, chairman and chief executive officer of FM. “We’re honored to partner with United Way of Rhode Island and help extend the impact of the extraordinary work they do.”

FM’s gift will help expand United Way of Rhode Island’s Family Stability Initiative, including opening additional Economic Empowerment Centers that provide families with coordinated support designed to build long-term stability and resilience.
The gift was recognized on Oct. 17 during UWRI’s Centennial WaterFire celebration, which commemorated the organization’s 100-year legacy and the partnerships that continue to power its work across the state.
