CUMBERLAND — Liam Joseph Kane, a Cumberland resident and finance major at Stonehill College, has announced his write-in candidacy for the District 2 seat on the Cumberland Fire Committee.

With no declared candidate for the seat, Kane said he saw an opportunity to serve the community where he has lived all of his life and put his finance studies to work for local taxpayers.

“Cumberland is my home, and I want to do my part to serve it,” Kane said in a release. “When I learned that no candidate had declared for this seat, I felt it was important to step up. I would bring a fresh perspective, a willingness to listen, and a commitment to responsible financial oversight.”

Kane said his priorities include working with town and fire officials to explore combining the fire tax bill with the town’s annual tax bill, identifying efficiencies and responsible budget savings, and ensuring firefighters have the resources they need to protect the community.

“Residents deserve careful stewardship of their tax dollars and dependable public safety services,” he said. “I want to ask thoughtful questions, look for practical savings, and support the firefighters who keep Cumberland safe.”

Because Kane is running as a write-in candidate, his name will not appear among the printed candidates on the ballot. He is asking District 2 voters to write in Liam Joseph Kane for Cumberland Fire Committee District 2.

“I would be grateful for the opportunity to earn my neighbors’ trust and serve our hometown,” he said.
