WOONSOCKET – Landmark Medical Center, the hospital that works most closely with the Woonsocket Fire Department, has donated $100,000 toward construction of a new fire truck.
Officials, fire and rescue personnel, and hospital representatives, including Landmark CEO Michael Souza and others, gathered on Thursday, Oct. 29, at Woonsocket Fire Department Headquarters, 5 Cumberland Hill Road, to celebrate the donation.
City officials said they’re grateful to a hospital that does so much for the city. Landmark is a great asset, said Mayor Chris Beauchamp, providing extensive services and resources. He said their agreement to fund a 10 percent match on the truck was just another example of their commitment, thanking Souza, Carolyn Kyle, and the the rest of the staff.
Beauchamp said they’ll continue this great community partnership with the hospital for many years to come.
Kyle said they’re grateful for the partnership, and were happy to contribute in this way after being asked. She said they have a strong relationship with the mayor, EMS, and first responders.
Landmark has made a number of contributions to the city over the years, but this is the first piece of apparatus they’ve helped fund.
“The city of Woonsocket is grateful for Landmark’s continued commitment to our community and its support of the safety and well-being of Woonsocket residents,” said officials.
Landmark executives said caring for their community extends beyond the walls of the hospital. Their ongoing commitment is to keep giving back and supporting the people who make Woonsocket a safer place.
The new fire truck replaces an aging apparatus that has served the community for many years.
The custom-built vehicle is expected to take about one year to complete, ensuring that responders have the modern equipment they need to respond safely and effectively to emergencies.
“We are honored to support this important investment in public safety and to partner with our local first responders in strengthening the services that protect our residents every day,” said the hospital.
Giving back has always been a core value, according to staff.
“Together, we’re helping build a stronger, safer future for Woonsocket,” they said.
