CUMBERLAND – James Metivier, a Democratic candidate for Rhode Island Senate District 19, says his campaign is focused on lowering energy costs, housing affordability, health care, taxes, and effective constituent representation.
“My work ethic speaks for itself,” Metivier said in a campaign release. “I am out every day in the community, knocking on hundreds of doors and listening. Cumberland deserves a Senator who will show up, listen and do the work.”
A Cumberland resident for 35 years, Metivier has served eight years on the Cumberland Town Council. He spent more than 30 years at Amica Mutual Insurance, including two decades in business management, and is a proud member of Clube Juventude Lusitana.
Metivier said he is ready to start the hard work.
“Instead of challenging Senate leadership, I am prepared to work with them from day one on common-sense policies and innovative ideas that can make a difference for families,” Metivier said. “My approach in the Senate will emphasize working relationships and practical results rather than conflict to make headlines.”
His stated priorities include lowering household energy costs, expanding housing opportunities, improving healthcare affordability, pursuing responsible tax policies, and building working relationships in the Senate so Cumberland has an effective voice in state policy decisions.
“My door will always be open,” Metivier said. “And I will show up.”
