I’ve long believed that if you don’t think there’s much to do or any good places to eat in our area, you just don’t get out enough.
This page of The Local Insider, Food and Entertainment, will first and foremost be a guide to help broaden our horizons. We’ll share about trends, new restaurants, and events and places to go to after dinner, and we’ll hopefully do it all in an interesting way.
In these weeks where I’ve been working outside of an office (I highly recommend it), I’ve done a lot of meeting people in restaurants and coffee shops, and I’ve been struck again by the richness of the food and drink scene here in the northern Rhode Island area and beyond.
If you know you know, but the prices one can find in Central Falls and Woonsocket are still among the best anywhere, and there are so many little gems of joints all over the place.
At Taqueria Lupita in Central Falls, the husband-and-wife owners take care of you as your grandparents would. I was already full with tacos when they came over to put another one of a different variety on my plate. It was all about making sure I had tried a recipe they were proud of.
Who can get enough of the bacon, egg, and cheese on a plain bagel at Exchange Street Cafe in Pawtucket? Order the bacon extra crispy and I promise you won’t regret it.
And don’t get me going on Krakow Deli and Smokehouse in Woonsocket, which my wife and I made new discoveries about last year when we took cooking classes and now can’t get enough of the pierogi and other offerings.
And then there was the coffee.
My travels took me all over the place, from the Briggs Cafe across the street from where I grew up in North Attleboro, to old favorite Phantom Farms in Cumberland, to the oversized donuts made fresh at Honey Dew at Chapel Four Corners in Cumberland, to Revive Coffee Co. in North Smithfield (what a vibrant hub of community life and good coffee Revive was).
Anyway, before I get tempted to run out and spend more than I should on too many calories, I hope I’ve given you a small taste of what to expect here. This is clearly an opinion piece, but what you’ll mostly find here is straight news, from the shows and performances that add life to our weekends, to the restaurants and eateries that make our communities what they are. You might even find a review here and there.
