WOONSOCKET – Raymond Huot is taking matters into his own hands, creating an online fundraiser to support the future restoration of the Woonsocket Skatepark.
The Woonsocket Skate Park Community Fund has raised $557 on a $5,000 goal as of Friday afternoon, July 31.
“I’m Raymond, and I’m reaching out on behalf of the Woonsocket Skatepark Revitalization Project,” he posted. “Located currently at Hamlet Avenue the skate park is one of many approaches at creating a haven for skateboarders, BMX riders, scooter enthusiasts, and rollerbladers of all ages over the last 30 years.”
Unfortunately, he said, the park was left to the elements and now shows significant wear and tear.
“This not only limits its usability but also poses real safety risks for everyone who enjoys it,” he posted. “Our community deserves a safe, sustainable, and modern space where we can gather, stay active, and support one another.”
Huot previously shared his aim to restore the park.
Upgrading the park would promote healthy, active lifestyles, especially for local youth, who need constructive outdoor activities close to school and home, said Huot. It would also help boost local commerce by connecting the Cass Park Complex and surrounding businesses, creating a vibrant corridor for the city, he added.
“While the Woonsocket Skate Park Revitalization Project continues to lobby and advocate for immediate improvements, the funds raised here will go directly toward the ultimate goal: the construction of a new skate park,” he said. “Sadly, there is no free skate park grant. Many grants for skateparks require a certain amount of community contributions as part of the many requirements to qualify. I invite you to help us transform Woonsocket Skate Park into a state-of-the-art facility that will sustain our community for decades to come.”
