WOONSOCKET – Former Woonsocket Housing Authority Director Bob Moreau will receive $475,000 in a settlement with the city over his firing four years ago.
The WHA’s insurer will pay $400,000 of that amount, while the insurance company for the city will pay $75,000. Moreau had sought $1 million. The payment must be made within 30 days of being signed.
Moreau declined to comment on the settlement.
Speaking for a story back in 2024, he expressed vindication after the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Office of Inspector General found no evidence of improper behavior on his part related to the hiring and paying of a security firm during the pandemic.
“This is proof that the whole thing was made up to get rid of me,” he said then. “This proves they were lying about the security contract being an issue. They should have done their due diligence before they terminated me. The fact that they did not shows that there was a motive behind the entire thing.”
Moreau’s lawsuit alleged that former Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt launched an investigation into him as a way to remove him from the position, accusing her of doing so intentionally to disrupt his relationship with the WHA through improper motives or methods.
The agreement settles the former 23-year member of the Police Department’s claims against others, including Baldelli-Hunt, Michael Houle, Steve D’Agostino, Luciene Cote, and Nicholas Gassey, and Moreau must release his claims against all.
