Dear Neighbors,
This past weekend served as a powerful reminder of everything Pawtucket has to be thankful for and the vibrant community we have built together. Following last weekend’s unimaginable tragedy, our residents rallied to support the affected family emotionally, spiritually, and financially. I was incredibly proud to see our city unite during such a difficult time. Our hearts and prayers remain with the family as we continue to lift them up.
Later in the week, we kicked off the summer in true Pawtucket style. As the center of Rhode Island’s “Summer of Soccer,” we hosted watch parties for Cabo Verde’s herculean effort against Argentina and Colombia taking down Ghana. The energy, pride, and passion on display downtown were truly inspiring. The Guild and other businesses hosted parties for the USA game, and the city saw more than 1,000 attendees for both the Colombia vs. Ghana game and Cape Verde vs. Argentina.
We also celebrated our country’s 250th anniversary at our new, world-class Centreville Bank Stadium. Between the pre-game block party, the match itself, and the spectacular fireworks, Pawtucket’s greatness was on full display. Rhode Island FC has truly made our city the center of the regional soccer universe, and I was grateful to be part of the festivities.
Watching so many families enjoying themselves, I was reminded of the many people who made this possible. From residents and local business owners to elected officials and youth leagues, this stadium exists because of those who advocated for Pawtucket. While there are too many contributors to thank individually, please know how appreciative I am for your support.
I look forward to more celebrations throughout the summer. Thank you, Pawtucket, for being the community I love.
Best regards,
Don Grebien
