North Attleborough celebrates opening of new Community Field playground

NORTH ATTLEBOROUGH – On Thursday afternoon, Oct. 29, town officials cut the ribbon on the new Community Field playground, replacing a space that had welcomed children for nearly 25 years. They said it was special seeing the project come to life.

“I’ll say it plainly: I’ll take a playground over a data center any day,” said Town Manager Michael Borg. “A data center may hum along behind a fence, but a playground brings people together. Parents meet neighbors. Grandparents bring the next generation. Kids grow up with memories of a place that belonged to them. That’s what makes a town a community.”

Work on the playground, through a $600,000 town-funded project, didn’t disrupt games or programs at the park.

The project came about after a tree limb fell on part of the playground, sparking safety concerns and a full assessment of the facility.

Making the project a reality took more than funding and construction, said officials. It took a shared vision and months of coordination between the Parks & Recreation Department, Community Elementary School, and town staff, with support from state funding secured by Rep.ee Adam Scanlon and capital funding secured by our Town Council.

“A special thank you to our Parks & Recreation team, whose dedication and hard work helped bring this project across the finish line, and to our school partners for their collaboration every step of the way,” said the town in an announcement.

“What makes the playground especially meaningful is its place at the heart of Community Field. It’s not simply a school playground. It’s part of a space where families spend their evenings and weekends, friendships are formed, and community traditions continue. This is what investing in North Attleborough looks like.”
