CUMBERLAND – Town staff say delayed distribution of new 95-gallon recycling totes and pickups of old 65-gallon ones should be back on schedule shortly.
Community Outreach Coordinator Sarah King said she believes the plan from waste service provider Mega Disposal is to have efforts back on track by the end of the day on this very windy Saturday.
Residents have expressed confusion over which days they can expect a switch to the new bin and whether they should bring in their old bins in the meantime.
To find out if you’re on the “A” list or “B” list for distribution, go here.
Workers are traveling around on a large flatbed-style truck with a roof collecting bins and disassembling them and stacking them as they go. Once they reach the end of the street, they stop and take apart and stack the bins they’ve collected.
Many residents have expressed that they intend to keep their old bins for extra recycling storage or other uses, and some have complained that their bins were taken even though they wanted to keep them.
King explained that dozens of people were running after the waste collectors asking why they weren’t taking the old bins in their driveways, so now if the bins are visible, the workers are automatically taking them. If someone wants their bin back, they can email staff and the bin will be returned to them once distribution is over, she said.
