Lincoln police warn of scam impersonating town staff

LINCOLN – Police are urging the public to beware of impersonation emails

“It has recently come to our attention that malicious emails are being sent to residents while pretending to be staff from the town of Lincoln or the Lincoln School Department,” they said.

The scam emails may ask someone to purchase items, send money or donations, take part in unusual or urgent transactions, or provide personal or financial information.

Here’s what residents should do in response, said police:

• Be cautious with unexpected requests for money, purchases, or donations.

• Verify the sender before responding.

• Do not click suspicious links or open unexpected attachments.

• If unsure, contact the organization directly using an official phone number or website.

They’re asking people to share this information far and wide to help protect friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers.

“Stay vigilant and stay safe,” said police.
