McFeeters says speeding is a top issue for District 1 in Pawtucket

PAWTUCKET – Since his campaign began, says District 1 City Council candidate Tyler McFeeters, he has heard a familiar theme all across the district: speeding.

“It is an issue that truly unites. No small feat in this day and age,” he said in a. release. “The question is what can be done about it? More specifically, what can a city councilor do about it? From door to door, person to person, over the last 5 months, I have heard hundreds of people express their frustration with the speeders.”

As a father of an elementary school student, he said, “I know the fear many of my neighbors have about excessive speeds on our neighborhood streets. Our residents should feel safe in their neighborhoods. We must do more to ensure their safety.”

As with most problems, there isn’t one fix-all available here, but rather a series of possible tweaks, said McFeeters. There could be increased signage, and certain areas could have solar-powered LED lights added to the signage.

“We could re-examine traffic patterns, red lights and traffic lanes,” he said. “It is not enough to simply throw our hands in the air and say we have to live with reckless drivers on our streets. An increase in the frequency of police patrols is another small fix. As a community member, I have routinely reached out to our Police Department, and as your city councilor, I would work with our men and women in uniform to ensure that resources are dedicated to keeping our neighborhoods safe.”
