WOONSOCKET – Friday night, June 12, wasn’t just the opening concert of the Levitt AMP Woonsocket Music Series, it was a night to honor local radio legend Dave Richards.

Councilor Valerie Gonzalez and other members of the City Council, as well as Mayor Chris Beauchamp and the city’s General Assembly delegation, officially renamed the new stage in River Island Arts Park the Dave Richards Community Stage to honor Dave and Denise Richards for everything they have done for the city and its people.

Local representatives and senators presented Richards with proclamations, and Meghan Rego, representing NeighborWorks Blackstone River Valley, also presented the Richards with a framed poster from Levitt AMP Series.

The Local Insider reported last month after the City Council voted to name the stage in honor of Richards. Gonzalez introduced the resolution recognizing a man she said not only has a wonderful radio voice, but maintains a deep commitment to Woonsocket and all that’s good here.
Through his radio station, WOON 1240 AM / 99.5 FM, he informs, connects, and engages, she said, broadcasting every Autumnfest celebration, council meetings, and the Levitt AMP concert series. He does it all with constant integrity, she said then, and often completes projects at his own personal expense.
